TRAFFIC FRIGHTS: Cars Move To Safety Seconds Before Massive Steel Pipes Tumble Off Lorry

This is the moment several cars miss being crushed by a whisker as steel pipes fall off the trailer of a lorry in the middle of a busy street.

The incident happened in the city of Ningbo, in the Chinese province of Zhejiang, on 31st March.

In the CCTV footage, the lorry can be seen slowing down before a red light at an intersection, but the pipes it is carrying keep moving forward and smash into the cab.

The harness holding them in place can be seen slipping at the same time, and when it finally snaps, the large objects fall off the trailer on both sides, narrowly missing the cars that had been waiting alongside the lorry just seconds earlier.

According to reports, the longest pipe was 12 metres in length and weighed about two tonnes.

The police were called to the scene to investigate, and the pipes were swiftly removed using a crane, as can be seen in a second video.

A police spokesperson told local media: “There were many cars waiting in line in the left-turn lane.

“The light was green, they started to move one by one, and when the last car pulled away, the steel pipes rolled down.

“Both things happened within a couple of seconds of each other, which is really lucky, otherwise the consequences would have been unimaginable.”

Fortunately, there were no other vehicles waiting at the lights.

The police advised lorry drivers to check their payloads carefully, paying attention to the objects being transported and ensuring that they are secured firmly in place.

They also indicated that lorry drivers should take care to pay attention to their speed. As they stop at traffic lights, they must slow down well in advance, so as to avoid similar incidents.
