Italian police officers were surprised to find a small owl in a chimney of a house after its resident thinking it was a thief reported strange noises coming from the chimney.

The surprise encounter took place in a house in the town of Belluno located in the Veneto region of northern Italy.

According to the Italian State Police, the resident of the house call the police reporting strange noises coming from the chimney. The resident requested the help of the officials because he believed there was a thief around his house.

The policemen arrived on the spot and concluded that there is no one lurking around the house, but they too heard the strange noises.

They decided to inspect the chimney and to everyone’s great surprise they found a small owl.

The Italian State Police also shared a video of the encounter where the owl can be seen turning its head to inspect the light coming from the flashlight of an officer.

The police informed that the officers were able to extract the owl, who did not seem to show any signs of injuries and take it outside. Once it was out of the house the bird of prey happily took off.
