Moment Florida Cop Carries Drink-Driver Out Of Overturned Car In Ditch

This is the moment a Florida cop carries an alleged drink-driver out of her overturned vehicle after she careered into a ditch.

The incident took place in Indian River County in the US state of Florida last week.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement: “Deputies pull woman from vehicle in ditch, remind others to not Drink and Drive

“Our deputies, along with Indian River County Fire Rescue and a few bystanders, responded when a vehicle went off the road and landed on its side in a ditch.

“The incident happened Friday evening, shortly after 5.30pm in the area of 26th Street and 58th Ave. Deputy Hatton and Cpl. Pollacek are seen on a body-worn camera helping to pull the driver out of the vehicle.

“Dep. Hatton is ultimately able to get the woman out and carries her out of the ditch, which had about a foot of water in it.”

The police added: “The driver, identified as Irene Manasa, 66, was uninjured but was still transported to Cleveland Clinic Indian River County for medical clearance. Her speech was slurred and her eyes were bloodshot and watery.

“We later determined through a breath test that her blood alcohol level was 0.334 – more than four times the legal limit of 0.08. Manasa was arrested for DUI and booked into the county jail.

“The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office reminds drivers that the 2021 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over national campaign continues through Sept. 6, Labor Day.

“In support of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office’s dedication to protecting the lives of our residents, you’ll see our deputies working together to take drunk drivers off the roads.”

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said: “According to the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 10,142 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2019 that involved an alcohol-impaired driver.

“On average, more than 10,000 people were killed each year from 2015 to 2019, and one person was killed in a drunk-driving crash every 52 minutes in 2019.”
