An 83-year-old British holidaymaker who went missing in Turkey on Sunday has been found lying injured in a canal bed 10 miles away.

Ron Plunkett – who has Alzheimer’s – had disappeared during a loo break on a family outing to the ancient city of Side in southern Turkey on 31st July.

His wife, Margaret, reported him missing to the local police at around 4.45pm.

Officers began analysing security camera footage and Plunkett was spotted walking near a main road.

The area where he was last caught on camera – seen in this footage – was searched by police.

Ron was found on the night of Monday, 1st August, a three-hour walk from his starting point, lying down in a dried-up canal bed with a broken leg.

His granddaughter Olivia revealed on social media: “He is okay!”

She added: “We are so relieved and happy right now.”
