This mother and daughter who gave birth in the same month have said they are raising their newborns like twins.

Gisele Lima Demetrio, 38, and her 22-year-old daughter, Daiane Fernanda Demetrio, gave birth just 20 days apart in the same maternity hospital in the Brazilian city of Tubarao last month.

Despite doctors predicting the women would give birth at least a month apart, one baby was late and the other premature, meaning they both arrived in the same month.

Daiane’s son, Gael, was the first to be born on 5th June. Gisele then gave birth to a daughter, Daimilly, 18 days later.

Despite being 18 days his junior, Daimilly is Gael’s aunt. With her birth, not only did Gisele gain another daughter, but Daiane also gained a sister.

Despite the newborns being aunt and nephew, the mothers feel like they are raising twins, given the youngsters’ tiny age difference.

Gisele told news site G1: “It was the same feeling as having had twins. I love being a mother and a grandmother.”

Daiane lives in the city of Criciuma and her mother an hour away by car in the municipality of Pescaria Brava.

However, Daiane, who also has a two-year-old son named Henrique, moved back in with her mum for a short while so they could raise the newborns together.

According to the young woman, it is the second time she and her mum have got pregnant at the same time.

During their first pregnancies, both mother and daughter suffered miscarriages, however, one year before Henrique was born.

Despite their latest pregnancies being their second simultaneous ones, they say neither event was planned.

Daiane shortly plans to return to her home in Criciuma. However, both mother, daughter and their respective children plan to continue visiting each other a lot.
