This footage shows a woman in Florida being taken out of a patrol car and paraded in front of a camera as an angry sheriff says she is “disgusting” and that she should be locked up for the rest of her life for stabbing her husband’s dog nine times after an argument.

The incident took place in Brevard County, which is located in the south-eastern US state of Florida.

The suspect has been named as Sherry Ann White, 51, and she is currently detained at the Brevard County jail for having stabbed her husband’s dog Jake nine times, resulting in the animal’s death.

White is said to have stabbed the dog nine times with a knife after a heated argument with her husband while he was sleeping before waking him up and telling him what she had done.

In a press conference outside the local jail Sheriff Wayne Ivey labelled the incident “sickening”.

The footage shows Sheriff Wayne Ivey as he made a statement saying that the fatal stabbing occurred as a result of an argument between White and her husband, who has not been named.

Sheriff Ivey said: “The two spouses were engaged in an argument. The husband went to bed. He was awakened later in the night by his wife telling him that she had stabbed his dog.”

The sheriff then shows two photographs to the camera, warning that the images are graphic. The first photograph shows the knife allegedly used by White to stab Jake to death.

The second image shows the injured dog. The sheriff added: “This is absolutely disgusting.”

He said that White was being arrested for “aggravated animal abuse and animal cruelty”, adding that her bond was “sadly only USD 2,000” (GBP 1,500). The sheriff, visibly aggravated, then promises to work “with our legislators to make sure that this changes”.

The sheriff said that the woman had “no remorse” and that she had woken her husband up saying “I stabbed your dog because I was mad at you. He did everything he could to save the dog’s life, he and a friend that he called. So I’m going to put her right where she belongs. Agent Straight and I are going to walk her into jail.”

The two police officers then walk over to a parked police car. Officer Straight then moves the woman, who is in handcuffs, from the car and walks her towards the jail as the sheriff tells her: “You should be ashamed of yourself, to take it out on a helpless animal because you were angry at your spouse. It’s disgusting.”

The door to the jail is then buzzed open and officer Straight and the suspect walk inside. The sheriff then tells the camera: “If you hurt an animal in Brevard County, you’re going to jail. You do this, you deserve to spend the rest of your life in jail. This is pathetic. This is disgusting, to take it out on an innocent animal because you’re mad at your spouse.”

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office released a statement in which Sheriff Wayne Ivey said: “I am disgusted by the actions of this individual who stabbed her husband’s innocent dog to death because she was angry at her husband!!

“Sherry Ann White stabbed ‘Jake’ at least 9 times and then awakened her husband to tell him she had killed his dog!!

“As I have always said…if you can do something like this to an animal you could do it to a human!!

“Thank you to Agent Straight for working another solid investigation and for being a voice for these innocent pets!!” (sic)

It is currently unclear what the couple had been arguing about.
