Ballerina Whose Leg Was Amputated After She Was Crushed By Tree Returns To Site To Perform Dance

A dancer has become a social media sensation after she returned to perform a dance at the site where she lost her leg when a tree fell on her.

Ballerina and salsa dancer Andreyna Hernandez, 29, from Venezuela lost her leg five years ago when a tree crushed her while she was sitting on a bench near the dance academy she was attending.

It took rescuers six hours to remove the tree from the critically injured dancer, and when Andreyna was taken to hospital doctors had no alternative other than to amputate the leg at the hip due to severe loss of blood and the extent of the damage.

Regardless of the difficult situation she found herself in after the surgery, Andreyna told local media that she never lost the will to dance and she immediately started going to physiotherapy and taking swimming lessons.

Finally, after she regained her balance and got used to standing on one leg, she decided to go back to the place of the accident happened and perform with her partner Robert Teran as a part of a dance festival named Salsa Casino.

The young woman, who won the hearts of many people and inspired them to fight and overcome adversity, wrote on Instagram: “Seeing people’s happiness and motivation to see a person with my condition dance, and furthermore considering there was a tree in the area . . which cost me the loss of my left limb, has made me realise that this loss was not an obstacle.

“From the first moment I discovered I could dance again, nothing has stopped me. I will keep doing what I like until the end of time!”

The woman also thanked her Instagram followers and sought their financial support to get a prosthetic leg through donations on the crowdfunding platform ‘GoFundMe’.

She said: “Thanks to the support of a friend and great singer @pedroalonsomusic and the @clmarketingvzlase team, you opened a very important opportunity for me, to get a prosthetic leg, which would allow me to improve my quality of life.”

That’s why a GoFundMe link has been added to my profile (gofund.me/5ed17d99), which will allow me to collect the necessary funds and get it [the prosthesis] through the help of people’s mutual efforts.”

Finally the woman added: “Everything is a chain. I get inspired by dancing, and by dancing I inspire others . . . I love what I do. I love dancing. I thank everyone who supports me and has spent some time to write some really cool motivating things to me. I love them.”
