Boy Sparks Online Stir After Yanking Out Tooth Tied To Door

This is the moment an eight-year-old boy kicks open his bedroom door and yanks out a wobbly front tooth tied with string to the handle, sparking debate about the safety of the old-fashioned trick.

The video was shared on the social network Douyin, also known as TikTok, by the boy’s mother Ms Zhang where she claimed she was not aware her son was removing his tooth in such a way, and only found out later while sweeping the floor and finding the tooth.

However, somebody was filming the young lad yanking out his front tooth with the ‘string tied to door’ method before posing with it, and it is unclear who if not his mum.

After the video sparked debate on the practice on social media, Ms Zhang, from the city of Xuzhou in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu, told local media that her son probably learned about the old-fashioned method from his classmates.

However, Deng Jianlan, chief physician of the Department of Oral Medicine at the Nanjing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, told local media that the practice of yanking teeth out with string and a swift kick to a door is not appropriate, adding that a child should seek the advice of a dentist if they are being troubled by a wobbly tooth.
