This video showing the moment when a teen girl tries to throw herself from a bridge before being grabbed and pulled to safety has been released by cops to urge the public to be aware of potential suicides and to call for help quickly.

The incident, which saw the police praise the rescuers and the member of the public who raised the alarm, took place over the Vistula River in the Polish capital Warsaw on Friday, 13th May.

Police in the city’s Praga-Polnoc district received a report about a young woman standing precariously at the bridge’s edge.

Officers acted quickly and were at the scene in under two minutes after receiving the notification.

The Warsaw Police said (in Polish) in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “‘Girl behind the railings of the bridge over the Vistula’ – this report was received by police officers from the intelligence and patrol department in Praga-Polnoc from the operator of the capital’s command post.

“The uniformed officers reacted quickly and after less than two minutes they were there.

“At the last minute, the police officers caught a teenager who tried to take her own life and, together with passersby, dragged her to the safe side of the bridge.

“The teenager was handed over to an ambulance crew, who took her to hospital.

“Every year, officers from the Warsaw Police undertake hundreds of interventions that save human lives, often putting their own lives at risk, we help and protect.

“When you see a person in need, react. Quick reporting means a quick response. We are proud of the eyewitnesses and our colleagues.”

It is not known why the teen tried to take her own life.
