CLEAVER FEVER: Syrian Man Tired To Chop Estranged Wife’s Legs Off With Meat Cleaver To Make Her Unattractive To Men

A man has reportedly admitted to almost chopping off his estranged wife’s legs with a meat cleaver to make her unattractive to other men.

The accused, charged with attempted murder, has been named as Syrian national Sohil A., 59, whose full name has been withheld due to strict local privacy laws.

He is accused of attacking his wife, identified only as Meiray, 44 — so that she would become “unattractive to men” — on a suburban rail platform in the town of Obertshausen in the German state of Hesse, at around 2.15pm on 28th August, 2021.

On the day of the attack, A. — despite having a 50-metre restraining order against him — approached his wife, from whom he was separated, and allegedly hit her several times with the clever.

German media have reported that the victim was defenceless and at the suspect’s mercy, and that he used “considerable force” to hit her.

Meiray ended up in hospital, critically injured, with a severed left tibia, among other wounds.

Her husband had also allegedly severed tendons, muscles and nerves. An emergency surgery was the only reason why the poor woman avoided having to have her leg amputated.

She spent nine months in hospital, but will probably suffer post-injury trauma throughout her whole life, according to German media.

Both of Meiray’s legs are permanently damaged, according to German media, and she will probably need a walker to help her move in addition to painkillers and anti-depressants.

After the gruesome act, A. was immediately arrested, placed in custody, and later charged with attempted murder.

He was brought in handcuffs to the Darmstadt Regional Court at 9.06am on Monday, 15th August, for the beginning of his trial.

During the trial, he reportedly confessed to the crime and said: “I committed the crime I am accused of. I’m very sorry for what I did to her.”

One of the victim’s friends stated: “She [Meiray] kept saying that her husband was very jealous and that she was not allowed to leave the house alone. She felt imprisoned.”

Meiray and A. have two children together and allegedly had marital problems for a long time before the incident.

The trial is ongoing.
