Cops In Australian Outback Speculate Whether Meteor Is UFO Or Jeff Bezos

This is the incredible moment the night shift for these Australian cops is lit up by the arrival of a meteor.

Police bodycam footage captured the arrival of the meteorite in the region of Pilbara, a large, arid and thinly populated region in the north of Western Australia.

On the foot is one of the police officers who can be heard saying: “did you see that, did you see that?”

A female colleague who had her back to the meteorite when it arrived can then be heard saying: “Oh wow! That was a big flash I thought that was a torch. Make a wish, quick, make a wish.”

Although she didn’t get to see it she did catch the flash of the meteorite and maintained that she “thought it was a torch”.

The other officer then realises that he probably caught it on camera.

After sharing the incredible story with their colleagues, they downloaded the body cam image and shared it on social media with a joke comment asking viewers which of the following it was.

They wrote: “a) shooting star, b) UFO, c) Jeff Bezos or other billionaire? Either way, it’s out of this world.”

A spokesman for the nearby Perth Observatory, Matt Woods, said it was a bolide meatier which was a space rock that probably was no bigger than a cricket ball burning up in the high atmosphere before arriving on earth.

He said that meteors are usually more common than people think, however, they are often not visible because they take place in areas near cities where light pollution makes them hard to see, or over water where there are no people to view them.

He told local newspaper Perth Now: “You have to be in the right place, at the right time to see one. I feel for the police officer because … Murphy’s Law is that you’re back will be turned when they (streak across the sky).”

The area where the meteorite came burning through the sky is known for its Aboriginal peoples and its ancient landscapes including iron ore-rich red earth as well as other vast mineral deposits. It is also known as a global diversity spot for its subterranean fauna.
