FAMILY TRAGEDY: Young Mum Killed By Unlicensed Driver Who Mounted Pavement
This is the harrowing moment when an unlicensed driver mounts the pavement and runs over a beautiful, young mum of one.
CCTV footage shows how Gislaine Cristina da Cruz Venancio was packing some goods on the pavement outside her workplace when a motorist suddenly mounted the pavement.
She looked over her shoulder, noticed the wayward vehicle, and tried to run. But she was mowed down by the speeding car, sending others present into a panic.
The incident took place outside a mini market in Votuporanga, Sao Paulo state, south-eastern Brazil at around 5.30pm on 28th August.
After running over Gislaine, the motorist hit two other cars parked on the street.
Gislaine, 25, was rescued by paramedics but died en route to a local hospital.
The Civil Police (Brazil’s investigative police force) said the 43-year-old motorist did not have a driving licence.
She was in the car with her husband at the time and neither were injured. Police did not release their names.
Gislaine was buried at the Municipal Cemetery in nearby Cosmorama on 29th August.
She had only been working at the mini market for two months. She leaves behind a husband and a two-year-old daughter.
The motorist was arrested for manslaughter and remanded to a women’s prison in the region following a custody hearing on 29th August.
She reportedly told police she did not remember the moment of the accident nor why she lost control of the steering wheel.
She was given a blood alcohol test, the result of which was not known at the time of reporting.
The accident remains under investigation.
