Greek Musician Plays Football Club Anthems On The Violin

This is the moment a Greek musician with nothing else to do during lockdown recorded himself playing different tunes on the violin and then put them together to create the anthems from clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool.

Triantafyllos Vavatsikos, 39, who comes from the Greek capital Athens, works as a violin teacher at the National Conservatory in a suburb called Eliopoulis in Athens, and he has been teaching the instrument to students for 14 years.

The musician who goes by the name Fiddlestro shares videos on YouTube of him playing club anthems for teams such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Barcelona on the violin.

Triantafyllos, who also plays the guitar and piano, told Newsflash: “I started attending music and piano lessons at the age of six and continued my studies attending violin lessons as well at the age of 10.

“I came up with the idea of playing team anthems during the COVID-19 lockdown period. As I like watching football and basketball, I thought I could combine them to music. The exceptional common element that the teams have among other elements is music, I thought.”

He said that performing all of the elements of the football club anthems himself was difficult but satisfying, although he still enjoyed performing live when he had the chance.

He said: “The biggest stage I have ever performed at was at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, known locally as The Herodion, which is used a venue for music concerts with capacity of 5,000, back in 2017.”

Triantafyllos told Newsflash: “I was one of the violinists of the Greek orchestra which accompanied ‘The Queen of the Violin” Vanessa Mae who lit up the stage in one of the most anticipated concerts in Greece.

He added: “We all admired her unique repertoire that includes both classical and pop music.”
