A mum in Los Angeles has gone viral with nearly 14 million views with this video showing sprinkled black rice all over her messy teenager’s room so she would think it was rodent faeces and clean up.

The footage that the mum posted online shows a very messy bedroom with the bed unmade and clothes strewn all over the floor.

There are discarded clothes hangers lying around and so much clutter it appears difficult to be able to walk across the room, let alone find anything.

But rather than get angry or threatened punishment, Tiffini Hamer, who is a talent agent and a real-estate agent living in Simi Valley, California, on the West Coast of the United States, told Newsflash in an exclusive interview that she thought that a humorous approach would yield a better result.

Tiffini said that she spotted some organic black rice at the grocery store, adding: “I bought it and thought it would be funny because me and my daughter are always messing around like that.”

To an untrained eye, the black rice looks exactly like the little black droppings left behind by certain types of rodents like mice or rats.

Tiffini explained that her unnamed 16-year-old daughter, who she said suffers from ADHD, went to the pharmacy with her father at one point and that was when she seized her chance to “put the rice down.”

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders with minors. One of its key characteristics is an inability to pay attention and focus, and to control impulsive behaviours.

Tiffini added: “My daughter noticed a couple hours later when she went to take her meds. She freaked out and decided to clean her room!

“About half way through I was laughing at her and she was like ‘what? How did this happen because I don’t have food in here’ and I told her.”

The video has since gone viral, notching up 13.9 million views on TikTok at the time of writing and has been liked 1.6 million times.

The teenager later posted a video saying: “My room was messy for four days, when I started to clean my ADHD kicks in and… mom look at the birds flying.

She added ‘my mom is my BFF’ saying: “My mom did not humiliate me by posting my room, if she thought it would she wouldn’t have posted it.”
