LOVERS’ LEAP HORROR: Man Dragged Girlfriend Over 80ft Cliff

A jealous man dragged his beautiful girlfriend more than 80 feet to her death over a lovers’ leap when they rowed after a romantic meal.

Selcuk Cetiner, 41, had gone with his girlfriend Mehlika Derici, 35, to a restaurant in Marmara Ereglisi, Turkey, to celebrate a friend’s birthday.

After the meal – on 6th August – the couple and two friends went to a nearby lookout point called Asiklar Tepesi, or Lovers’ Hill.

But there, according to local media, an argument broke out and Cetiner shouted at his girlfriend: “Are you ready to die with me?”

Then, before Mehlika could flee, he grabbed her arm and hurled himself off the clifftop, dragging her with him.

The pair plummeted 25 metres (82 feet) to their deaths.

Paramedics took their bodies to the morgue at Marmara Ereglisi Hospital, while police took their mobile phones for analysis.

Cetiner was described in reports as a landowner, and he and mum-of-two Mehlika were said to own a beauty salon.

Femicide is a growing problem in Turkey, particularly after the country officially quit the Istanbul Convention in July last year.

According to the 2021 Annual Data Report by the ‘We Will Stop Femicide Platform’, 280 women were killed by men in 2021, while 217 women were found suspiciously dead.

According to data from the ‘Monument Counter’ – “a digital memorial for women killed by violence” that is updated daily – 241 femicides have taken place in Turkey so far this year.
