According to the fire brigade, vets were then called to the scene to sedate the animal so that it could be lifted to safety without causing further harm to itself, or potentially firefighters.

After being tranquilised, the large animal was placed on a stretcher and lifted out of the canal by firefighters.

The deer was then taken to a veterinary centre for checks and treatment to any injuries.

The next scene shows the deer strapped into the stretcher as officials slowly move it towards a raised ridge.

At the end of the video, the sedated animal is seen on ground level after apparently being lifted to safety.
