Mother Gives Birth In Middle Of Madrid Street As Baby Did Not Want To Wait

A Spanish mother has given birth in the street outside her Madrid home while trying to get to hospital.

Laura, 38, went into labour outside her house in the district of Hortaleza, in the Spanish capital, Madrid, and gave birth without medical assistance.

Both mother and newborn Zaira are both healthy and doing well in hospital.

The Emergency Services in Madrid shared images of Laura and Zaira receiving care by an ambulance with the message: “It happened very fast. Zaira was in a hurry to get out. She was born on the street. Her mother has kept her wrapped up, skin to skin, until the arrival of @SAMUR_PC [specialised emergency system of Madrid], who cut the umbilical cord. In perfect condition, they were transferred to Hospital La Paz. We couldn’t start the day in a better way!”

In the footage, Laura is seen breastfeeding her baby and telling paramedics: “I’m very well, still surprised, it all happened so fast.”

Zaira is the couple’s second daughter and was born in the street at around 7.20am on 23rd March.

As the couple did not have enough time to get to hospital, the mother sheltered from the cold in their car and waited for the emergency services to arrive.

Emergencies Madrid said the birth took place on Tunja Street.

Laura said: “It was incredible, she was born on the street.”

When the emergency services arrived on the scene, the baby had already been born and was with her mother inside the car.

Paramedics cut the umbilical cord and transferred Laura and little Zaira to Hospital La Paz, where they are both doing well.
