SHOCKING CALL: Girl, 12, Dies After Lightning Hits Home While She Was Using Phone

A 12-year-old girl was found dead with her mobile phone in her hand and her charger nearby after lightning struck her family’s home.

The incident that took the life of Nur Asyqin Qistina, happened in Kampung Baru Sungai Raya Luar, located in the historic Kampung Bar area of the mountainous Lojingon region of Gua Musang District, Kelantan, Malaysia, on Monday, 15th August.

The local police chief superintendent Sik Choon Foo reportedly told local media in a statement that the incident took place at about 4:50 PM during a thunderstorm.

The police chief reportedly said in the statement: “After the complainant (the victim’s father) finished his prayers at the nearby surau, he went home upon learning that there was a power outage at his house. About 15 minutes later, he was informed by his wife that their daughter was unconscious.”

A surau is an Islamic assembly building used for worship that can be found in some regions of Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula.

The police chief also reportedly said in the statement: “The father then checked on Nur Asyqin Qistina and found there were burn marks on her arm and mattress. There was also a mobile phone in her daughter’s right hand and a phone charger near her.”

The girl’s father, identified as M Nor Zawawi Awang, 54, took her to the Kuala Betis Health Clinic where she was pronounced dead.

The police chief reportedly said in the statement: “Investigations showed that there was no criminal element involved in the girl’s death and the incident was believed to have occurred after the solar inverter at the complainant’s house was struck by lightning.”
