Spanish Cops Rescue German Paraglider Tangled In High-Voltage Power Lines
This is the moment Spanish Civil Guards rescue a German paraglider who became trapped in high-voltage cables 130 feet from the ground.
The 48-year-old German citizen, name not reported, was rescued in the area of Loma del Gato in the municipality of Almunecar located in the southern Spanish province of Granada on 2nd January.
According to the news site Granada Hoy, the paraglider was trapped in the power cables about 40 metres (131 feet) from the ground while coming in to land.
The Mountain Service of the Civil Guard of Granada was informed of the incident at around 6pm and a team of four specialists was sent to the scene along with local firefighters, paramedics, and representatives of the Iberdrola power company, who cut off the electricity in the immediate vicinity.
One Civil Guard specialist climbed to the trapped paraglider’s position and mounted a pulley, anchoring the end of the rope to the man’s harness so they could lower him to safety.
When the German man was secured, Civil Guard cops cut the paragliding ropes from the power cables and then lowered him to terra firma.
The man was treated by paramedics on the scene for a large bruise on his right leg caused by the paragliding ropes. It is unclear if he required hospital treatment.
The Civil Guard shared footage of the rescue on social media on 3rd January that has been viewed over 10,000 times.
