Volunteers Rescue Small Orphaned Kitten Crying For His Mother In Meadow

Animal welfare volunteers have rescued and fed a small orphaned kitten that was crying for his mother while standing alone in a meadow in Austria.

Activists from the Pfotenhilfe animal welfare organisation took in a small male kitten after passersby heard his heartbreaking cries in a meadow near Hollerersee Lake in Braunau District in the Austrian state of Upper Austria.

The newborn, which people found lying next to his mother’s afterbirth on Saturday afternoon (3rd July 2021), still had its umbilical cord attached to his tummy but was left alone and his mother was nowhere to be found.

The young one was then taken to the Pfotenhilfe animal shelter where it was warmly welcomed by managing director Johanna Stadler and given the name Rambo.

She reported that the young kitten is feeling well and his condition is currently stable after Pfotenhilfe keepers made sure to feed “the little fighter” with a bottle of warm milk.

Stadler told Newsflash: “Rambo is just another victim of this horror surge of cat orphans, but he is no burden to us because I have to feed a dozen of these little creatures every three hours and even during the night.”

The woman added: “In addition, this week we had to take in a bat, a young swan which was seriously injured by a fishing line, a hawk, a hedgehog, a ducking and several other injured or orphaned birds.”

According to Stadler “currently that is relatively low for a weekend.”

She said: “A few weeks ago we took in around 20 animals and kittens every single day. Unfortunately, we are one of the very few wildlife sanctuaries in the area and people drive over an hour to bring us animals.”

The Pfotenhilfe animal organisation asked the public for information about Rambo’s mother who they are certain has other babies since cats can deliver up to eight kittens.

The Pfotenhilfe animal welfare organisation, which is located in the municipality of Lochen am See in the Austrian state of Upper Austria, currently provides shelter for over 600 animals from 25 different species.
