Athletic Wild Bison Herd Jumps Fence After Being Scared Off Property

This is the moment a herd of huge bison shows the amazing athletic abilities by jumping a fence and escaping into the woods.

The incident was filmed at the Vanatori Neamt Natural Park, one of the few places where European bison can be seen, in the Romanian county of Neamt by Ioan Mihut after he was called to disperse the herd from the property.

In the footage, the herd of bison is seen gathered in front of a wooden fence as the cameraperson approaches.

Apparently spooked by Mihut’s presence, the herd then leaps over the wooden fence and escapes into the nearby forest.

Alongside the American bison, the European bison (Bison bonasus) is one of the two extant species of bison.

The European bison is considered the heaviest wild animal in Europe but because of excessive hunting became extinct in much of Europe and Asia during the late antiquity and Middle Ages, only surviving into the 20th century in north-central Europe and the northern Caucasus Mountains.

The species now numbers several thousand after being slowly returned to the wild by captive breeding projects.

They are no longer in immediate danger of extinction, but are still missing from most of their historical habitats.

Around 45 bison live in the Vanatori Neamt Natural Park.
