A man who killed his girlfriend in a frenzied knife attack and wrapped her body in a carpet before throwing it off their apartment balcony has been seized by police in Russia.
Accused Maxim Molotov, 26 – who has admitted to the brutal slaying – attacked Valeria Belousova, 21, when they rowed after a drinking session at their flat in Perm, Perm Krai, in the early hours of 4th August.
Police say he stabbed her more than 50 times with a knife before wrapping her in a carpet and dumping her body from their third-floor balcony.
Molotov – said police – then carried her body towards his car but fled when he was spotted by a witness.
One unnamed friend told local media that Molotov had called her from the victim’s phone later that morning to ask her if she had seen Valeria.
He reportedly made the bizarre claim that he had returned home to find burglars in his flat and that he had killed one of them and rolled his body up in a carpet.
The friend told local media that Valeria’s parents had called her to tell her that Molotov had, in fact, beaten their daughter, broken her nose, and stabbed her to death with a knife or screwdriver.
Valeria was studying at the Faculty of Geography of Perm State University and had started a part-time job just three days before her death.
She had met Maxim two years earlier, with her friends and family reportedly against the couple’s relationship.
She was buried on Sunday, while Molotov – who police said has prior convictions – was remanded in custody.
He awaits trial for murder and faces a lengthy prison term if convicted.
