Florida Cops Offer USD 100K Reward To Find Man Who Shot Cop In Head

Florida cops are offering a USD 100,000 reward for information leading to the capture of a 29-year-old gunman who shot a police officer in the head on Wednesday.

The shooting took place at around 8.50pm in the city of Daytona Beach in Volusia County in the US state of Florida on 23rd June.

The authorities said a massive manhunt is underway for the suspected shooter, named as Othal Wallace, 29.

The Daytona Beach Police Department said on social media: “A USD 100,000 (GBP 71,814) reward is now available for anyone who can help authorities locate the man who shot one of our officers in the head earlier this evening.”

The police added that the 26-year-old cop, name not disclosed, was responding to a suspicious incident when he stopped answering radio calls.

When colleagues arrived at his location, they found the officer lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head.

Daytona Beach Police Department chief Jakari Young said on Thursday morning that US marshals are now involved in the large-scale, multi-agency manhunt.

Young added: “This entire county is on lockdown until we track this coward down. So I’m grateful for every agency that’s responded over here tonight to help us as they’re committed to staying out here until we get this coward in custody.”

Before Young addressed local media, the police released the officer’s body-cam footage showing him approaching the suspect while he was in his vehicle.

In the edited clip, Wallace says “come on now, don’t do this” before the pair struggle and a shot is heard before the cop falls to the ground.
