The police said the driver failed to stop for officers and reached speeds of over 80mph during the subsequent car chase.

Officers attempted to stop the driver, named as Adam Franklin, after spotting him shouting out of his car window, beeping the horn, and swigging from a bottle.

The Derbyshire Constabulary said: “He made off and officers lost sight of his Vauxhall Zafira until he was spotted not far from the Pentagon Island.

“The 35-year-old then continued at speed, driving through a residential area over speed bumps at more than 50mph, attempting handbrake turns, and at one point almost colliding with a fence and losing control.”

The car chases lasted for around three minutes and ended when Franklin boxed himself in on Shetland Close, a dead-end street.

Franklin, who comes from Chaddesden, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without a valid licence or insurance.
