Moment Reckless Mother Crashes Car Into Pond With Her Two Children Inside During Hot Pursuit With Cops
This is the moment a reckless mother crashes her car with a baby and a toddler inside into a pond leaving both submerged after a chase with Lake County police officers.
One of the police officers reportedly saved the children from the pond and is said to have been brought tears in the incident which took place in the city of St John, in the US state of Indiana, on 12th December at around 11 PM.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department said that its officers have conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving at significant speed near 101st and White Oak Avenue.
During their investigation, the police officers reportedly discovered that the male passenger in the car was the subject of an active warrant.
The officers removed the man from the vehicle but he then fled on foot. He is then said to have fallen into a retention pond or a creek before being helped out of the water by officers. The man, who has not been named, but who is 26, was treated for exposure detained.
After the man was removed from the vehicle, the driver, an unnamed woman with two children in the car, took off and led the police on a wild chase.
As can be seen in the footage, her vehicle eventually left the road and also ended up in a retention pond, believed to be a different pond to the one that the man fell into.
Officer Darrell Shaffer was in hot pursuit and he did not hesitate to jump into the cold water. He reportedly saw that the driver was still behind the wheel of the vehicle and noticed that there was a car seat in the vehicle.
He is said to have felt underwater in the car and located one of the children before locating the second one.
He pulled them both children, an eight-month-old girl and a three-year-old girl, who have not been named, to safety.
The driver was then ordered out of the vehicle and made it to the bank where she was taken into custody.
The driver, who has not been named, but who is said to be a 24-year-old woman from Chicago, was taken to hospital along with her two children for a checkup. The Indiana Department of Child Services was also asked to look into the case.
The suspects have not yet been charged. The man faces potential charges of fleeing a police officer, on top of the charges stipulated in the warrant, the details of which have not been made public.
The woman faces potential felony resisting charges as well as two counts of felony neglect.
