Mushroom Pickers Climb Tree Sharpish After Encountering Roaring Tiger In The Woods

This is the moment a Russian mushroom picker films a roaring Siberian tiger roaming the overgrowth beneath the tree he climbed with colleagues and they spent around nearly an hour sitting on high branches waiting for the it to leave.

The incident was filmed near the village of Sokolovka in the district of Lazovsky in the far-eastern Russian region of Primorsky Krai, the country’s only border with North Korea.

The footage was widely shared on social media on 26th September, Day of the Tiger in the Far East, according to the news site Life.

In the footage, the Siberian tiger is heard roaring and moving around the base of a tree where several mushrooms have taken shelter.

From the safety of a high branch, one worker films the big cat stalking him and his colleagues before it eventually gives up and runs away, possibly after picking up the nearby scent of an easier-to-catch prey.

According to local reports, the mushroom pickers spent around 40 minutes up the tree to escape the prowling tiger.

Yuri Mosalsky, head of the Lazovsky municipal district, said: “Several people encountered a tiger in the forest. Nobody was hurt. Also, around this time, the animal should be well fed and satisfied, preparing for winter.

“If it started attacking them, they would not have had a chance to climb the tree.

“When we have a ‘conflict tiger’, all local bodies jump to work, including the Amur Tiger Centre. This was not the case here, the group just came across a tiger.”

Mosalsky advised residents and workers in forest areas to carry firecrackers to scare predators away and a flare “for peace of mind”.
