Otter Filmed Wrestling A Giant Pike Onto Land To Eat

This is the moment when an otter struggles to catch a pike and wrestles with the fish that is trying to escape the animals clutches in the night-time incident.

Photographer Evgeny Polonsky, who is a resident of the city of Astrakhan, in the Russian federal subject of Astrakhan Oblast, shared the footage of an otter family on a night hunt with his Instagram followers on 28th April.

Otters are carnivorous mammals, and they eat mainly fish, invertebrates, and shellfish. Most otters live near water and are active hunters who constantly explore river beds, lakes or seas. (https://bit.ly/3tNIIYZ)

In this video shared by Evgeny, the otter catches a pike from the river. The otter, who climbs out of the river while keeping the pike in his mouth by its tail, then has a hard time as the fish repeatedly twists and turns attempting to break free.

In the video filmed at Astrakhan State Biosphere Reserve, the otter’s partner can be seen watching closely and loudly worrying about the outcome of the hunt, making agitated sounds as the other otter struggles with the giant pike.

According to the local news website Vesti, Evgeny stated that the pike’s length was almost one metre (3,2 feet).

At the end of the video, the otter appears to have been victorious and is seemingly eating the fish. The video ends with the otters plunging into the river and leaving the camera’s view after having consumed a fish supper.
