Russian Firefighters Puts Out A Fire Spread Over 100,000 Acres

Russian firefighters managed to extinguish a massive forest fire that spread over an area of ​​more than 100,000 acres.

Emergency service crews managed to extinguish the fire in a forested area in the Tyumen region near the Andreevskoye Lake in Russia on 16th May.

According to the Ministry of Russia for the Tyumen Region, authorities received a call about a fire in a forested area on the morning of 15th May. At that moment, the burning area was almost 250 acres.

The ministry wrote in a statement that the fire quickly spread in two days, reaching up to 109,000 acres, although there was no threat to human settlements. Extinguishing the fire was complicated due to hot, dry weather and strong wind gusts as the fire spread quickly.

According to the report of the local news website TASS, to put out the fire, more than 100 people and 25 pieces of equipment were involved in the operation.

After the emergency crews tried to battle the fire through the ground cover, which turned out to be a failure, they called on the help of the aviation teams. The aviation team was involved in extinguishing with helicopters Mi-8 and Mi-26, which threw over the burning area about 300 tons of water.

During the fire, the traffic police blocked a section of the Yekaterinburg-Tyumen highway due to the smoke. Traffic was resumed after the fire was extinguished.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire after a two-day operation.

No injuries were reported.
