This is the moment a sleeping grandmother rushes to her feet to console her toddler grandchild as noisy fireworks are set off outside for a wedding.

The family scene was filmed in the city of Zaozhuang in the north-eastern Chinese province of Shandong, and was later widely shared on the social network Douyin, also known as TikTok.

Two tots were scared by the sound of fireworks being set off outside, and the sleeping grandmother jumped up from the sofa to protect one while their mother consoled the other child.

The children’s mother explained that a neighbouring family was celebrating a wedding and the fireworks were scaring the two toddlers.

She added: “When I saw the children’s grandmother kneeling on the floor, I was very moved.”

In the video, the mother is seen sitting in a large playpen as the two youngsters walk around the floor. Meanwhile, their grandmother is apparently asleep on a sofa.

When the sound of fireworks being set off fills the air, the mother stands up to console one screaming tot while the other apparently runs towards the nan.

Meanwhile, the grandmother wakes from her slumber and instinctively springs to her feet to rush to the frightened child’s aid.

She slides to the floor on one knee and embraces the toddler, who starts crying at the scary noise.
