The Son Of A Russian Politician At The Wheel Of A Tesla Electric Car Flew Into A River

The son of the head of the government of the Yaroslavl region has written off hisTesla after crashing into a river.

Artem Stepanenko, 21, was involved in an accident with his Tesla Model S electric car on Podushkinskoye highway in Barvikha, Russia on 29th June.

The driver, who turned out to be the son of the Prime Minister of the Yaroslavl Region Dmitry Stepanenko, had been driving the Tesla car when he lost control and flew off the highway into the Samynki river.

After the accident, the president of the Yaroslavl government remarked: “Everything is fine with him (the driver). The road situation was to blame.”

Artem was not injured, and instead, his car worth at least 7 million RUB (69,000 GBP) had to be lifted out of the river with the help of a crane.

According to the news website REN TV, Dmitry Stepanenko’s son had been driving this Tesla electric car for less than two years, but he had already been involved in six accidents.

It is known that Artem Stepanenko is studying at the International Institute for Energy Policy and Diplomacy (Moscow State Institute of International Relations).

It is unclear what action the authorities have taken in connection with the accident and whether an investigation has even been opened into the crash.
