Ukraines Notorious Azov Regiment Takes Out Russian Armoured Personnel Carrier While Defending Mariupol

This footage reportedly shows members of Ukraine’s notorious Azov Regiment opening fire and neutralising a Russian armoured personnel carrier while defending the severely damaged city of Mariupol.

The images show the targeting system of a military vehicle, which can be seen opening fire on a Russian armoured personnel carrier sporting the now-infamous letter ‘Z’.

Ukrainian forces repeatedly open fire on the Russian war machine, and after sustained fire, they eventually appear to breach its armoured exterior.

The footage was obtained by Newsflash from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence along with a statement, in which it said on the evening of Monday, 14th March 2022, at approximately 7pm: “Brilliant combat work of the units of the Allied Forces, which continue to defend Mariupol.”

The footage has also been shared by the Azov Regiment, which said at 5pm: “During the day, as a result of fighting, Azov fighters destroyed one typhoon, four armoured personnel carriers, two BBM ‘Lynx’. Many infantry were also killed, including 17 Russian GRU special forces.

“Fighting for Ukrainian Mariupol continues, despite the fact that the city is under siege.

“Defenders of the city continue to fight for every citizen, despite the fact that the enemy is trying to capture the city.

“The fighters are fighting steadily and selflessly with the Russian horde, which is constantly attacking Mariupol with aircraft and artillery.”

The Azov Regiment, also known as the Azov Battalion, is a notorious group of soldiers who were officially incorporated into the National Guard of Ukraine in 2014 after recapturing Mariupol from pro-Russian separatists in June that year.

And now they appear to be focused on pushing out invading Russian forces from the bombed-out city, which was hit days ago by Russian missiles, which destroyed a maternity ward and claimed the lives of children, with images that shocked the world.

It was announced yesterday evening that the pregnant woman who made headlines around the world on the front page of numerous newspapers while being carried from the rubble has passed away after her baby was stillborn and doctors were unable to stabilise her.

The Azov Regiment began as a far-right, neo-Nazi group that started out as an urban militia and a political party that has since expanded and, through service to Ukraine, has been incorporated into the Armed Forces.

Russian President Vladimir Putin appears to have capitalised on the presence of this group in eastern Ukraine to announce his so-called “special military operation” to “de-Nazify Ukraine”, painting the whole country with the same brush as this regiment.

But on a national level, the political branch of the Azov Regiment failed to win any seats in the Ukrainian parliament.

The Azov Regiment is believed to number approximately 1,000 soldiers.
