Iran Floods Kill 3 As Search Teams Continue Looking For 2 Missing

This is the moment stunned Iranian locals film a huge torrent of muddy water rushing through their village during flooding that killed three with at least two others still missing.

The flooding affected four villages in Kaleybar County located in the northwestern Iranian province of East Azerbaijan on 8th August.

The authorities in East Azerbaijan Province said flooding in the area killed three people aged 60, 15, and 13, and that at least two others are still missing.

According to reports, 74mm of rain fell in a short space of time, causing the inundation. Eleven cars and tractors were flooded and over 200 livestock perished. Meanwhile, 20 kilometres of roads and 20 bridges were badly damaged.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) sent representatives to the area to help organise the evacuation and relocation of around 100 families in villages affected by the floods.

Mohammad Baqer Honarbar, director-general of Crisis Management in East Azerbaijan Province, announced: “All necessary resources will be made available for relief and finding the missing persons.”

According to local media, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has sent four truck loaders and bulldozers to the area to assist with cleanup operations.

Meanwhile, search teams have been dispatched with sniffer dogs to try to find any missing victims.

Officials are also evaluating the extent of the damage caused by the flash floods.
