Trio Of One Man And Two 9 Year Old Boys Rescued From A Sinking Vessel

The Western Australia Police Force released a video of the rescue of a man and two boys who were clinging onto a sinking vessel who started taking on water after being swamped by a wave.

The trio clinging onto the vessel consisted of a 30-year-old-man and two 9-year-old boys who were on board a five metres boat in n Mandurah, Western Australia on 14th of August.

After being swamped by a large wave the boat began taking on water. As the vessel started going down the three occupants, the man and the two boys were clinging onto the bow of the vessel as it was the only part out of the water.

Around 20 minutes into the emergency a hand-held VHF radio floated free from the vessel. The man was able to grab it and immediately made an emergency radio broadcast.

The emergency radio broadcast was received by the Peel Water Police and Mandurah Marine Rescue.

The trio kept their position onto the bow up until the moment when an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) in the vessel floated free which enabled them to refine their position.

Police Air Wing, Water Police and Mandurah Marine Rescue were all despatched to the scene. The officers on board the police helicopter noticed the trio floating in the water west of the Dawesville Cut.

The trio was pulled out from the water with the help of the Peel Water Police officers, who immediately provided first aid.

The man and the two boys, whose names were not disclosed, were then taken to shore and conveyed to the Peel Health Campus for hypothermia treatment and treatment for jellyfish stings.
