Penguins Jump Excitedly As They Play Around In The Snow

This the cute moment a waddle of happy penguins frolics in the snow at a Danish zoo.

The footage was shared by Odense Zoo in the city and municipality of Odense in the Danish region of Southern Denmark on 4th February.

The video shows a group of six northern rockhopper penguins (Eudyptes moseleyi) waddling around in the thick snow.

A group of people stand around the animals watching them play while others capture the adorable moment on camera.

A spokesperson from Odense Zoo named Danni Larsen told Newsflash that the animals are kept inside enclosures to ensure they are kept in the appropriate conditions throughout the year and due to the presence of mould in the region.

Larsen said Aspergillus mould is quite common in Denmark but can cause a potentially deadly infection to penguins.

The cold temperatures and uncommon snowfall the city of Odense greatly reduced the risk of infection which led the animals’ caretakers to take them outside for a spell.

Larsen said the penguins were in the snow for about 15 minutes before returning to their enclosure.

He added: “If the cold and snowy weather continues, they may get more trips outside. It will depend on the authorisation of our veterinarian, as an Aspergillus infection can be quite dangerous and, if not spotted/treated, deadly for a penguin.”

The northern rockhopper penguin is listed as endangered in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
