This mangled selection of insect body parts was all that was left after a baby picked up a live cockroach and ate it in front of his horrified mum.

The shocking incident happened in Indonesia when the mum was busy on her mobile phone and not able to react quickly enough when boy picked up the cockroach and stuffed in his mouth.

She said she was so shocked that she initially didn’t react as he chomped onto the insect, and by the time she ran over all that was left in his mouth was its legs and head which he managed to remove and later photograph.

The body of the insect however was swallowed by the baby by that point.

She said she felt terribly guilty about playing on her phone and not reacting quickly enough and shared images of the insect’s body parts, saying: “My baby ate everything of the cockroach, all that was left in his mouth were the cockroach’s feet.”

She said she had no idea the cockroach was nearby and afterwards, unsure what to do, she gave the boy lots of water to make sure it wasn’t stuck in his throat.

Shocked commentators posted messages on the video saying that it was urgent the woman seek medical attention because of the diseases and parasites that many cockroaches carry.

The woman, who was speaking in Indonesian, can be heard arguing with her husband about who was to blame in the video she posted, and she also showed the baby’s hands which she said were sticky from the goo that came out when he started crunching on the cockroach.

It was not revealed where in Indonesia the incident took place, but it was widely reported by local media.

Reports also said that the mother later took the baby to a doctor to get medication to tackle any possible complications.

The mother said she wanted to post the video to let others know that they should not repeat her mistake.
