This is the moment Chinese residents gather below a building window with outstretched curtains to catch a two-year-old boy who climbed outside and got stuck on the building ledge.

The incident took place on Beicheng Road in the city of Shijiazhuang in the Chinese province of Hebei.

As there was no guardrail outside, the boy climbed down onto a ledge and became stuck, holding onto iron railings with both hands until help came.

A dozen residents then worked together to get curtains from a nearby shop and use them as a makeshift safety net.

In the footage, the boy is seen dropping into the outstretched curtains before being cuddled and reassured by helpers and then a woman.

Local estate agent Li Qiusuo said: “I was taking a lunch break in the store, and suddenly heard someone screaming outside. I rushed out in a hurry.

“I was so frightened that I hurried up to help out, and hold a sheet with other citizens, ready to catch the child at any time.”

Qiusuo added: “At the moment of catching the child, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The child’s mother was in a hurry and cried for half an hour in her arms. Fortunately, the child was safe and sound.”
