Hundreds of People Evacuated From A Wildfire That Kept Burning Through The Night

San Martino, Italy, 14th July

A wildfire erupted in the area near San Martino, Pensilis in Italy. The fire began in the evening of 13th July and continued burning through the night. The situation progressed and got worse at the end of the day, forcing the evacuation of a hundred individuals as a precaution. Local media report that the old center of San Martino in Pensilis was also damaged by the fire. The fire appeared to be bursting through the vegetation in a section of the hill on which the town is built and had approached the town’s gates. At least three residences, all of which seemed to be unoccupied, were damaged by the fire, including a Caritas family home where some elderly people were kept. A hundred people had to be rescued.
