A soldier killed his cop lover before apparently turning the gun on himself in a bizarre shooting at a wind farm.

The couple’s bodies were found together after energy workers in Bandirma, Turkey, came running when they heard a series of shots.

Military NCO Burkay Urcan, 28, allegedly shot his police officer lover Kubra Acar, 24, three times with his service handgun at 10pm on 24th June.

Security guards reportedly found two people lying in a pool of blood next to their car.

Emergency services arrived on the scene and pronounced both victims dead.

Local authorities identified both victims as non-commissioned officers Urcan of the Bandirma Gendarmerie Command and Acar of the Bandirma Police Department.

The victims’ bodies were taken to the Bursa Forensic Medicine Institute.

Officials say Urcan shot his lover three times before firing a single shot at himself.

The investigation is ongoing.

Femicide is a growing problem in Turkey, especially after the country officially quit the Istanbul Convention in July last year.

According to the 2021 Annual Data Report announced by the ‘We Will Stop Femicide Platform’, 280 women were killed by men in 2021, while 217 women were found dead in suspicious circumstances.

The ‘Monument Counter’, a digital memorial for women killed by violence in the country and updated daily, 194 femicides have taken place in Turkey so far this year.
