BOATING ACCIDENT: Boaters Find Teen’s Severed Foot In Water And Docs Reattach It After Propeller Cuts It Clean Off
This teenager’s severed foot has been found some 100 metres from shore after a boat propeller cut it clean off when he dived into the water to untie mooring ropes has been reattached by doctors.
Yasar Gorer, 18, was working on a tour boat in the Hacifeyzullah area of Kusadasi, a resort town in south-western Turkey’s Aydin province, near Izmir on Turkey’s Aegean coast, when the accident took place on Tuesday, 16th August.
The tour boat was preparing to leave port when its ropes became entangled with those of another vessel.
Yasar dived into the water to untie the mooring ropes but the tour boat was reversing and his foot got caught in the propeller, cutting it clean off.
An ambulance was called to the scene and boaters retrieved the teenager’s foot some 30 metres (100 feet) from shore, according to Turkish media.
Yasar was taken to the Izmir Hand, Microsurgery, Orthopedics and Traumatology Hospital by ambulance, where doctors were able to reattach the severed limb.
Yasar was reported by local media as doing well after his operation.
