Moment Family Empties 200L Oil Barrel They Used As Piggy Bank For 9 Years

This is the moment two Chinese kids empty a 200-litre oil barrel that was used as the family’s ‘piggy bank’ for nearly a decade.

Ms Zeng, from the city of Changzhou in the Chinese province of Jiangsu, posted a video of her children having fun emptying their unusual piggy bank on social media.

She said the family-of-four had been using the empty barrel for storing loose change for nine years.

The family had acquired a new barrel and felt it was time to empty the old 200-litre drum they had at home for the best part of a decade.

The children had fun emptying the loose change and occasional banknote from the barrel, although it is unclear what they were allowed to buy with their new cash.

Ms Zeng said they did not count the money after it was eventually removed from the barrel, adding that it was about half full and that her husband and a pal could not lift it.

After the mother shared the video on social media, some netizens said that a CNY 1 (GBP 0.11) coin weighs around 6 grammes and 10,000 coins are about 60 kilogrammes. Therefore a large collection of coins weighing 400 kilogrammes would be worth around CNY 80,000 (GBP 8,980).

In the footage, the two siblings are seen removing coins from the small hole before the smiling lad apparently removes a banknote which he adds to the large collection on the floor.
