Moment Meteor Over The UK Is Caught On Cameras As It Shoots Over The Channel
These images show an “incredible” meteor shooting across the night sky with sightings being reported in France, in the Channel Islands and in the UK last night.
The show was caught on camera by netizens who posted images on social media, and it was also caught on various webcams filming ports in France and in the UK. It was even snapped by a police dashcam in Hampshire.
The meteor was sighted shortly before midnight in France, at about 11:45pm on Sunday night (5th September) and a few seconds later in the UK Channel Islands, at 10:46 PM local time.

Netizens reacting on social media called the event “incredible”, “unbelievable” and “scary”.
So far there have been sightings of the meteor in Guernsey, Alderney, Devon, Brittany, and Southampton, and Hampshire, to name a few locations.
The French Fripon/Vigie-Ciel organisation, which runs a participative science programme geared towards bringing together researchers and people who have spotted meteors, shared a map detailing all of the locations of people who have reported seeing meteor.

Based on their map, it was seen as far north as Leicester and as far east as Paris, with most of the sightings grouped together in north-western France and in the south-western UK.
The footage shot in Brittany appears to show one of the earliest images of the meteor, as it flies over the port of Portsail in the commune of Ploudalmezeau, in the Finistere department.
The images in Southampton were recorded by a webcam belonging to Solent Ships, who specialise in providing footage of the port of Southampton, showcasing important vessels entering and leaving the port, and who told Newsflash that they managed to capture the incredible sight because they have “a camera streaming live on YouTube 24/7.”

The footage in Jersey was filmed in St Aubin’s Bay by the Air Rescue Channel Islands, who operate air rescue helicopters.
The UK meteor network has suggested that early information appears to show that the meteor fell into the sea off the coast of France.
The exact location where the meteor landed is yet to be confirmed.
