This is the moment a heavy goods vehicle turns in the road and a passing biker smacks his head on the large metal lifting hook.

The incident was filmed in the district of Gongjing in the city of Zigong located in the landlocked Chinese province of Sichuan and was shared on social media by the local traffic police.

The Zigong Traffic Police said the video highlights the importance of wearing a helmet as the man remarkably only suffered minor injuries.

According to the police, Mr Chen was turning a mobile crane in the road when a man, identified as Zhu Mou, hit his head on the lifting hook while passing on a scooter.

Mr Chen has reportedly taken full responsibility for the accident, admitting that he was relieved when the man turned out to be okay.

Luckily for Zhu Mou, his helmet bore the brunt of the impact and he was only treated for minor injuries, mainly to his arm when he fell from the scooter.

However, it is unclear if he plans to take legal action against the mobile crane driver.

Meanwhile, the local police used the footage to remind citizens of the importance of wearing helmets.
