This incredible footage shows mysterious bright lights streaking across the night sky like an intergalactic invasion.

The phenomenon was witnessed in La Paz and Los Cabos in the Mexican state of Baja California as well as other areas along the coastline of the Gulf of California.

Online users claimed the phenomenon was visible as far as the north-western Mexican states of Sonora and Sinaloa.

The bright lights, resembling an alien invasion from a sci-fi movie, were observed at around midnight on Saturday, and wowed witnesses, who shared their video clips on social media.

Twitter user ‘Jennifer Janesko’ filmed the scene from a rooftop venue and shared the footage with the message: “I had to live over 50 years to be blessed with this sighting tonight!”

She also included hashtags for ‘Baja California’ and ‘Meteor Mexico’.

Netizen ‘Omal Tai’ posted a video clip of the phenomenon, viewed nearly 100,000 times on Twitter, with the message: “This is how it was seen from the street #LosCabos #Meteorite I have never seen anything like this before!”

Local media said scientists are investigating the cause of the mysterious lights, as it is unclear whether they were a meteor shower or possibly the burning remains of a SpaceX rocket.

Some reports attributed the lights to the remains of SpaceX’s Falcon 9, which was launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida with 49 Starlink satellites on 4th February.
