This is the moment youngsters slide down a GBP 12-million Chinese landmark prompting the local authorities to install a guardrail to prevent it happening again.

The incident took place at the ‘Ring of Life’, a 515-foot high circular landmark in the city of Fushun in the north-western Chinese province of Liaoning last week.

Youngsters were filmed sliding on the circular landmark, which cost RMB 112 million (GBP 12.3 million) when it was built in 2012.

After the videos were widely shared on Chinese social networks, the local authorities announced that they would set up guardrails around the landmark.

It is unclear when the structure will be fitted with the new safety rails.

In the footage, a small group of people is seen sliding down the smooth metal surface of the circular landmark on their behinds, some from a significant height.

The landmark, fitted with over 12,000 LED lights, boasts an observation deck that is accessibly by lift.

With over 3,000 tonnes of steel, the structure was commissioned after planners abandoned a series of local entertainment projects and opted to build a sightseeing landmark that would help to bolster tourism in the city.
