A Russian student downgraded for his diploma because of his green hair and pierced ears has had his poor marks overturned.

The downgrading over his appearance that caused a huge scandal took place at the Ural Polytechnic College in Yekaterinburg on 16th June.

Scherbakov Roman who is a professional makeup artist and model, posted on his TikTok page the moment when the teachers insulted him, and the video got over 2 million views.

During the announcement of the grades, the teachers drew attention to the appearance of Roman, indicating that they were forced to give him “good” instead of “excellent” because of his hair colour and inappropriate clothing.

In the footage shared by Scherbakov on social media, the woman wearing a white blouse and a polka dot dress is heard saying: “We are completely confused here. Your work was good, but your green hair ruined everything, and so you only get the “good” rating.”

The teachers continued to humiliate the graduate, saying: “The clothes you wear and the way you look are also unacceptable.”

The young man had tried to explain that because had recently moved, he simply did not have any other clothes, an excuse was not accepted because the woman continued that he was “turning up dressed as if he was going to a disco” and teasing him for the ear piercing.

However, the members of the Ministry of Education and Youth Policy of Sverdlovsk Region, to which Roman turned for help, were of the opinion that the teachers did not act within the scope of her responsibility and supported the graduate.

After the investigation, Roman Shcherbakov announced on Instagram that he was marked with an “excellent” for his diploma.

According to the graduate, the college administration acknowledged that an unacceptable situation had occurred, and apologized.

Earlier it was reported that the Ministry had begun an investigation into the incident with the student’s certification, and an official investigation would be conducted against the teachers present at the exam.
