This is the moment a police car runs over a teen suspect who was fleeing from the police after he was reported for an armed carjacking.
A food delivery driver reported to the police that he was approached by an armed suspect who displayed his weapon and drove away in the victim’s vehicle on the 1800 Block of Druid Hill Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States on Monday (14 June)
After a while, the officers were able to locate the suspect driving the vehicle. In order to stop the suspect, the officers activated the lights and sirens on their vehicles, but the driver ignored them and sped away from the police.
The Baltimore Police requested an air support unit to assist in tracking the vehicle. During the overhead pursuit the air unit recorded the suspect speeding through city streets, going through several red lights and stop signs.
At one moment the suspect parked the car and bailed out of the vehicle. The suspect continued running while the air unit followed him, directing police vehicles to the suspect’s location.
Once a police vehicle approached the suspect, he started running again. The pursuit was cut short when a police vehicle struck the suspect.
Aid was immediately rendered to the suspect and during the process, a black semi-automatic airsoft handgun was recovered from the suspect’s pant leg.
After first aid, the suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and after a medical evaluation, it was determined that he did not need to be admitted.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed is a 16-year-old male who has been charged as an adult with Armed Carjacking and numerous other offenses.
The Baltimore Police inform that a video of the incident recorded by the air unit was immediately forwarded to the Department’s Public Integrity Bureau and the Special Investigation Response Team. This is considered a “Use of Force incident” for which an internal investigation was subsequently initiated.
