A seven-year-old schoolboy taken out by his granddad for a ride on his tractor tragically died when he fell from the vehicle and got crushed under a wheel.

The accident took place in the rural neighbourhood of Akharem in Orhangazi district, Bursa Province, Turkey, at around 2pm on 14th August.

Salih Y., 62, had taken his grandson Utku Soyaslan out for a ride on his tractor, according to local media.

But while the vehicle was in motion, the seven-year-old reportedly lost his balance, fell, and was run over by one of the tractor’s wheels.

The schoolboy was taken to Orhangazi State Hospital, where, despite medics’ best efforts, he succumbed to his serious injuries.

Meanwhile, Salih Y. was arrested by gendarmerie. It is not clear if he was remanded in custody or if he faces charges.

Tragic Utku had had a heart condition since birth and had undergone heart surgery only last year.

He leaves behind a grieving mother Gamze, father Aslan Soyaslan, and a younger sibling.

The Orhangazi Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the incident.
