Turkish Man Casually Walks And Chats On The Phone Whilst A Building Collapses Right Next To Him
This is the moment a man casually chats on his phone completely ignoring the apartment block collapsing just a few meters away whilst two other men run for their lives as debris tumbles towards them.
The video was recorded in the Bozkurt district of Kastamonu in Turkey, where severe flooding damaged several buildings so badly that the government decided to have them torn down.
In the footage one of the countless buildings devastated by the flooding is being torn down, but three people are still well within the range of the falling rubble.
Two of the men notice that building coming down and run for their lives, narrowly escaping the falling apartment block.
However, the third man is less concerned about the falling building and continues to talk on his phone and makes no attempt to put some distance between him and the collapsing building.
After the building hits the ground, a white cloud of dust is thrown into the air lingering just a few metres behind the man who continues to chat on the phone.
Local media reports that at least 78 people have died in the floods, and a total of 1,720 people, 323 in the province of Bartin, 925 in the province of Kastamonu and 472 in the province of Sinop, have been evacuated to safe areas by helicopter and boats.
The Environment and Urbanisation Minister Murat Kurum stated that there are approximately 454 heavily damaged and destroyed buildings affected by the floods in all disaster areas.
The district of Bozkurt seen in the footage was one of the hardest hit by the floods, which began following heavy rains that affected the Western Black Sea Region starting on 11th August.
Suleyman Soylu, the Interior Minister, said: “The flood is one of the biggest disasters I have ever seen. Thus, we will carry out a long and feverish work here. We are trying to keep the morale of our citizens high. This trauma is not an easy one.”
Local media did not identify the men in the footage, and it is unclear if anyone was injured by the collapsing building,
