Saudi Arabia Opens Worlds First Hotel For Camels

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has opened the world’s very first hotel for camels.

The hotel was launched expressly to serve the humped mammals through the course of the sixth edition of the King Abdul Aziz Camel Festival, an annual camel beauty contest whose latest edition came to an end on Monday, 10th January.

The hotel’s name is ‘Tetaman’, which means ‘Rest Assured’, and it boasts 120 rooms, which are all designated for camels so they can be serviced and groomed.

The camel hotel reportedly employed over 50 people during the recent pageant, with Saudi Camel Club spokesperson Mohammed Al Harbi telling local media the hotel staff provide a VIP service to their ungulate guests.

The camels, in addition to being groomed, receive security, are delivered meals and hot milk, and are also made sure their stables are salubrious and warm during their stays.

Al Harbi revealed that a night’s stay at the camel hotel will set the animal’s owner back a sum of SAR 400 (GBP 78) per night.

This year’s camel festival, which took place in Rimah Governorate, which lies within the An-Nafud desert, started on 1st December and lasted 40 days.

It brought together camel enthusiasts and owners from the Gulf states, but also from as far afield as France, Russia, the USA and even Australia.

The pageant was reported to have attracted over 100,000 visitors from all over the world per day. At the festival, the visitors got to experience Saudi Arabia’s rich Bedouin heritage firsthand and up close.
