Man Pointing Gun at Springfield Police During A Foot Chase

Springfield, Massachusetts, 20 June

This is the shocking moment a man repeatedly points the gun in the direction of the cops and passers-by during a foot pursuit. Surveillance camera footage shows 43-year-old Jose Montanez, the armed suspect, pointing a gun at officers on the High Street in the city of Springfield, Massachusetts at around 7.25pm on Sunday night (20 June). Springfield Police respond to the spot after they receive a ShotSpotter activation report for five rounds of gunshots. In the video is seen how Montanez is trying to run away from the police but is turning around multiple times to point his firearm at officers and bystanders. As the suspect continued to turn around, authorities were able to detect the gun’s slide was locked in the rear, which indicates it is unable to fire or is out of ammunition. Officers also saw an additional ammunition depot on the fugitive man’s belt. Montanez, once surrounded by a group of police officers, continued to run in the direction of the High School of Commerce, where he allegedly threw a firearm on the school property before being arrested. Officers recovered the weapon, reporting that it was stolen from Ludlow and the waist magazine. Jose Montanez, 43 was taken into custody on several charges. The investigation is ongoing.
